Carrick-on-Bannow

Penal Style Crosses

These three crosses were moved to this location from the site of Carrick Church, 300 metres to the southwest. They are all inscribed but it is almost impossible to see the inscriptions because they are covered in Lichen. The central cross is the tallest at 1.08 metres and has EC incised with the year below, 17??. The cross on the right is smallest standing only 0.77 metre high. It bears an incised cross. The third cross has the letters IHS inscribed on it and stands 0.78 metres high.

Situated: The crosses are located at the crossroads in the centre of Carrick on the R736. Take the R736 south from Wellington Bridge.
